PhotoKPR support

Answers to help you use your vault and stay in control of your media.

How do I protect my vault?

Set up your PhotoKPR passcode when you first use the app. You can then use Face ID if your device supports it. Biometric authentication is handled by iOS.

Where are my photos and videos stored?

Imported media is encrypted and stored in PhotoKPR’s private space on your iPhone. You can choose to copy an encrypted backup to your own iCloud storage.

Does importing media delete the original?

Do not assume that importing removes the original from your photo library. Check your originals separately in Photos, along with the Recently Deleted album if you decide to remove them.

How do I create an iCloud backup?

Open Backup in PhotoKPR and choose “Create / update backup” (in the French interface: “Créer / mettre à jour la sauvegarde”). Keep the recovery key somewhere safe, separate from your iPhone. A message saying the copy is prepared does not necessarily confirm that the upload to iCloud servers is complete: the transfer depends on your connection and available storage.

How do I restore a backup?

Use the same iCloud account you used for the backup. On the Backup screen, enter your recovery key and choose “Restore from iCloud” (in the French interface: “Restaurer depuis iCloud”). Restoration replaces your current local vault. Make sure you have the right backup and preserve any local media you want to keep before continuing.

What if I lose my recovery key?

OXYDANE S.A. cannot recover your key or decrypt your backup for you. If you can still access your vault on your iPhone, preserve your media and recovery key from the app before changing devices or uninstalling it. Never send your recovery key to support.

Can I export my media?

Yes. You can export or share media from the app whenever you choose. An exported copy is then managed by the destination app or storage location.

What happens if I delete the app?

Uninstalling may delete your local media. The optional iCloud backup is separate, and restoring it requires your recovery key. Before uninstalling, check your backup and keep important media separately.

What is Trash for?

It lets you restore a deleted item before it is permanently erased. Permanent deletion cannot be undone from the app.
